Attack! Customers Skewer Golden Corral Over Sanitation Issues

The Golden Corral restaurant chain is getting pummeled over photos that were posted to Reddit showing the kitchen overflowing with unwashed dishes and garbage. The Reddit post has spark more than 2,000 comments already, with another 500 or so accumulating on the chain’s Facebook page.

The manager of the restaurant in Port Orange, FL called the incident “a result of the Associate Manager making a bad decision to improperly store food when the corporate inspector made a routine, unannounced visit to the restaurant. I apologize that a member of my management team made this bad decision.”

Judging by the comments on both Facebook and Reddit, apology not accepted.

  1. Hello from Duke, where several of my classmates and I fondly remember your dad from our frosh history survey course. Dr. Gillin’s interest in Russian history sparked my interest then, and as I am hosting a Duke Alumni tour to Russia this week, one of my classmates reminded me of our course with him! So I googled his name and found the obit, which I was very sorry to hear. ( I have been back at Duke as a prof now for 17 years and am now mostly retired.) My friend also remembered that he bought the home on Club Blvd that had belonged to another classmate, Nancy Dailey–you can see that he is one of those “unforgettable” teachers, and I just wanted you to know of his impact on us in 1961!!

  2. Thanks for your comment and your memories, Betsy. Unfortunately, the institutions where he taught and the academic journals to which he contributed didn’t see fit to mark his passing, so my blog is the only tribute most people ever see. It’s been gratifying to receive so many expressions of the fond memories his students had for him. He was a wonderful guy, and I am grateful I was able to call him “Dad.”
