I have to agree with @pankaj's comment, as we see a much wider and proactive role for the CIO in social business. We wrote about it here "The CIO leadership role in Social Business" http://igo2group.com/blog/cio-leadership-role-social-business/

The key point is that often the IT group and the CIO are cast in a negative light when it comes to “corporate” and social media e.g blocking access to social sites, turning off or resisting Yammer etc. But it should be, and can be the opposite. The CIO can easily become an innovator and thought-leader in social business by repurposing skills and knowledge long held in enterprise IT.

Its slightly odd to me that a CIO should be commenting on social media as a marketing and customer service tool solely. Another implication is certainly internal collaboration. And in that sense, social media is clear improvement. Even before one starts talking about organizational impact, one can see it is a major improvement over email for information consumption.

An excellent way to show exactly what and how the new Timeline design has changed in Facebook pages. And With the custom page apps, you now have an unprecedented way of getting your fans to visit your website's homepage. Using the MyWebees Facebook app, you can give them a 'Home' button on the shiny new navigation bar that Facebook has provided them, and they can browse your entire website while still in Facebook.

You can get MyWebees here: http://bit.ly/GRK50g

I wrote a php script to remove all the malicious codes from wordpress files. You can find it here : http://www.tahapaksu.com/wordpress/about-costabrava-hack-and-some-fix

Note: the base64 code may vary so you can change it inside the file, then run it.

Facebook is an interesting validation of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar's_number" rel="nofollow">Dunbar's Number</a>. However, I just read that the average number of friends is now 245, so maybe Dunbar was conservative? The degrees of separation is an important LinkedIn feature. Thanks for pointing it out.

Paul,

This is an excellent article. So often, the basics are assumed and never taught. You asked for some suggestions, and I'd like to offer a few. First, you mention the "Power of 130." To this, you might add something regarding Dunbar's Number (150), the theoretical ceiling for manageable relationships. This is sometimes offered as a limitation to LinkedIn connections, with the defense being that even "weak ties" have value. Likewise, you might want to include something regarding LinkedIn's variance to the theory of Six Degrees of Separation: specifically, LinkedIn limits connections to Three Degrees in order to create a "trusted" network. My suggestions aside, this is an excellent job of using "plain English" to describe functionalities that are so often described in technicalities.
