I advise marketers and business executives on strategies to optimize their use of social media and online channels to reach buyers cost-effectively. In addition to my consulting and writing, I do a lot of speaking and seminars. I have a knack for simplifying complex concepts and making technology trends understandable.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a book in 2007 book called <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newinfluencers.com\/\">The New Influencers<\/a><\/em> that got a lot of nice comments and sold pretty well. It was about the changes in markets being driven by the new breed of bloggers and podcasters. I followed that with\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssmmbook.com\/\">Secrets of Social Media Marketing<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(2008), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Social-Marketing-Business-Customer-Relationships\/dp\/0470639334\">Social Marketing to the Business Customer<\/a><\/em> (co-written with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.erischwartzman.com\">Eric Schwartzman<\/a>, 2011) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Attack-Customers-Critics-Assault-Becoming\/dp\/1479244554\/ref=la_B001JP3M8C_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1356007608&amp;sr=1-3\">Attack of the Customers<\/a> (2012). <\/em>In between the business books I also squeezed in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/joyofgeocaching.com\/\">The Joy of Geocaching<\/a>, <\/em>which is about an Internet-enabled global game that my wife and co-author, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bunnyblab.com\/\">Dana<\/a>, like to play.<\/p>\n<p>I actually don&#8217;t blog very much on this site anymore. Much of my recent work has appeared on the <a href=\"https:\/\/profitecture.com\/blog\/\">Profitecture blog<\/a>. Profitecture is a small start up that provides social media training to B2B companies and their channel partners, and I&#8217;m happy to be a founding associate. I&#8217;ve also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btobonline.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/search?Category=SEARCH\">written extensively for <em>BtoB<\/em> magazine<\/a>, but with the folding of that magazine into\u00a0<em>Advertising Age <\/em>at the end of 2013, I probably won&#8217;t be contributing there in the future. I maintain another blog called <a href=\"https:\/\/newspaperdeathwatch.com\">Newspaper Death Watch<\/a>, where I chronicle the changes going on in the news journalism. I keep a <a href=\"https:\/\/delicious.com\/pgillin\/by_paul_gillin\">list of all my posts and articles<\/a> on Delicious in more-or-less reverse chronological order.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 7px; margin-right: 7px;\" alt=\"The Twillins, December, 2012\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8497\/8277222643_70c4d3cc3d.jpg\" width=\"250\" \/>Finally, I&#8217;m a Senior Research Fellow and board member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sncr.org\/\">Society for New Communications Research<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In my past life, I was founding editor-in-chief of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtarget.com\/\">TechTarget<\/a>, which was one of the first B2B publishers to understand the power of the Internet to address focused markets. Before that, I was editor-in-chief and executive editor of the technology weekly\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/\">Computerworld<\/a><\/em>\u00a0for 15 years. Prior to that, who cares?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m married to Dana, who makes me smile all the time. I have four children, two in their twenties and a pair of adorable toddler twins (right). I like to cook, scuba dive, ski, golf and geocache.
