{"id":347,"date":"2007-10-26T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-26T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paulgillin.com\/2007\/10\/blog-swarm-engulfing-att-how-will-it-respond.html"},"modified":"2007-10-26T11:30:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-26T18:30:00","slug":"blog-swarm-engulfing-att-how-will-it-respond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gillin.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/blog-swarm-engulfing-att-how-will-it-respond\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog swarm engulfing AT&#038;T; how will it respond?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><o:p><\/o:p>A blog swarm is developing at this very moment over <a href=\"https:\/\/consumerist.com\/consumer\/videos\/att-asks-ca-wildfire-victims-if-they-remembered-to-pick-up-satellite-receiver-as-they-fled-their-burning-house-315421.php\">AT&amp;T&#8217;s boneheaded decision to charge a California couple for a satellite dish<\/a> they failed to remove from their home as they were fleeing the wildfires in <st1:state><st1:place>California<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<span style=\"\">  <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerist.com\/\">Consumerist<\/a> picked up the story, and it&#8217;s been viewed more than 11,000 times at this writing.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There are already <a href=\"https:\/\/digg.com\/offbeat_news\/AT_T_demands_CA_wildfire_victims_return_their_satellite_dish\">over 600 diggs<\/a>, just within the first couple of hours.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>You can see the video from a local news station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QNnGVPyrOD0&amp;eurl=https:\/\/consumerist.com\/consumer\/videos\/att-asks-ca-wildfire-victims-if-they-remembered-to-pick-up-satellite-receiver-as-they-f\">here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Consumerist visitors are already using the incident to tee off on the much-hated cable companies.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>But that&#8217;s old news.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>What will be interesting is to watch AT&amp;T&#8217;s reaction as this hits the national media.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>If it&#8217;s smart, AT&amp;T will fall on its sword, apologize profusely and not only forgive the debt but set the couple up with a new satellite dish and maybe a couple years\u2019 worth of service to boot.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There&#8217;s no doubt people in AT&amp;T PR are already aware of this story.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Are they scrambling to respond or are they frozen by approvals and indecision?<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Keep an eye on Consumerist to see how this plays out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/marcom-writer-blog.com\/?p=179\">Dianna Huff<\/a> for the tip.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Update 10\/27\/07<\/span>: ZDNet blogger Russell Shaw <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.zdnet.com\/ip-telephony\/?p=2669\">posts a comment from a Dish Network spokeswoman<\/a> saying the whole thing is a mistake and the California couple won&#8217;t be charged for the dish.  <a href=\"https:\/\/consumerist.com\/consumer\/resolutions\/att-wont-charge-couple-for-leaving-satellite-receiver-behind-in-flaming-house-315695.php\">AT&amp;T also responded to Consumerist.<\/a> It&#8217;ll be interesting to see if this story just goes away now.
