Podcasting

What is the future of podcasts?, ZDNet, April 24, 2006 - The author basically argues that podcasts are attractive to publishers but a waste of time for listeners.

Out there in digital universe, there's a podcast for you, Canada.com, March 17, 2006 - Kind of an introduction to podcasting but has some interesting facts. Did you that most podcasters aren't kids, but are in their 30s, 40s and 50s? Would you like to get access to that group?

Invasion of the podcast people, Chicago Tribune, Feb. 20, 2006. The Trib says there are 27,000 podcasts on the Internet and describes the explosive growth programs can achieve through word of mouth. But there's still that tricky issue of how to make money, which few have figured out.

Marketers Aim New Ads At Video iPod Users, The Wall Street Journal, Jan. 31, 2006 - The WSJ must think podcasting's hot because this is its second story in two days on the topic. This deals with how advertising and promotion can be adapted to the Video iPod format. I think the potential of the Video iPod dwarfs that of the audio appliance in corporate settings.

PodcastingNews.com - Claims to have the largest database of podcasts on the Internet.

Indiepodder.org - Claims to have the largest database of podcasts on the Internet.

Podcast Alley - Claims to have the largest database of podcasts on the Internet.

Hearthis.com - Podcasting for marketers. This site makes it quick and easy to launch and manage a business podcast.

Pixpulse.com - Blog and podcast from your cell phone.

PodShow podcast network - Well-funded (Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia) venture that's aligning with the best independent podcasters to build a network of quality programming. You'll find very good shows here.

Podscope - Audio/video search engine that conducts keyword searches on MP3 files and actually takes you to the point in the file where the keyword is mentioned.  I don't know how they do it.  Try phonetic spelling if search result comes back empty.

Podzinger - Like Podscope, this service searches audio content and takes you to the exact point in a podcast where the searched-for term is spoken.

Audioblog - Fee-based service that simplifies the creation, distribution and management of podcasts.

What You Don’t Know About Podcasting Could Hurt Your Business: How to Leverage & Benefit from this New Media Technology - It's not the most polished white paper but it does have some nice stats and recommendations for success.

Businessweek on Podcasts, Businessweek Online - This magazine has jumped on community media with enthusiasm. Here's a nice page of stories and links to information about the people and technologies "who are convulsing the media world."

Podcasts worth checking out

IT Conversations - In my opinion, there is no better podcast series on the Internet. This site offers recordings of insightful presentations from some of the best IT-focused conferences along with regular programming of interest to anyone in high tech. There's a fee.

Between the Lines - ZDNet does an exceptionally good job with its blogs and this podcast series by editors Dan Farber and David Berlind is the best in IT media. It's fast-paced, smart and topical and these guys have excellent chemistry.

Infoworld Daily Podcast - It's always just five minutes long, covers the top IT news and never falters or slows down. The best daily IT news for my money. I just wish they'd silence the music during the headlines!

Daily Source Code - The first and possibly most popular podcast. Listen to a couple of shows just to hear how mature this medium can be.

Gillmor Gang - Tech trends, analysis and gossip. It's smart and plugged in to what's hot in technology

Mommycast - It's all about chemistry and Paige and Gretchen have got chemistry. They're likable and funny and they've made Mommycast one of the most popular podcasts on the Internet.

Whirlpool American Family Podcasts - Who says a corporate marketing department can't produce great content? More businesses should take a cue from this excellent series of family-oriented programs.

Businessweek - The Cutting Edge - Well-produced but not too slick. It's got an infectious enthusiasm and it's always on the leading edge. Businessweek does an excellent job with its podcasts.

Griddlecakes Radio - It's a podcast about podcasts - sort of. The host, known only as Ron, is good at simplifying Internet things but he doesn't talk down to his audience.
